Bought the book to read before movie's release. Boring and predictable. Perhaps a great work in 1885. Hope the movie is better!
I did not find this story to be very compelling. I don't know if it was the translation but many sentences were stilted and awkward. I felt that the story had promise but the author did not adequately develop the characters.
Good book so far, cant wait for the movie with Robert Pattinson, that is why I bought this book, to read it before the movie came out and so far I am enjoying it )
I want to know if this was an edited version of this book. I read it years ago and I remember it being much more explicit. This book seems to be toned down quite a bit. Is this a rewritten book? Is there an original book available.?
The book, 'Bel Ami', came in good condition. It was a quick read and really very good. If you are looking for salacious sex, you will be disappointed, but, the innuendoes are there. Ahh, and the imagination can go wild. The main character really has only one talent, so he must rely on his ability to enchant and entice the women around him to get what he wants. Such a deceitful cad is he. The tangled web in this storyline will not let you put the book down until it is finished. Can't wait to see the movie.
You will enjoy this classic story of greed and a selfish climb to the top - no matter who it hurts.
